We are always aiming to make our solutions more efficient for our clients, and we are excited to announce our newest update to help with this! Navigator IC now provides the option to create multiple independent contractor evaluations at once! This new functionality allows you to use a CSV file to create up to 50 evaluations at one time and have the associated company and contractor questionnaires created and sent with a single file upload. 

Overtime is and always will be a popular topic. Not only do you have to weigh the risks of classifying an employee as exempt or non-exempt, but there are so many other details to consider, such as handbook policies about timecards, meal and rest break regulations, and employee bonuses and gifts, just to name a few. In response to questions prompted by our recent webinar “Overtime - What Employers Need to Know Today,” we worked with Littler to put together “What Employers Need to Know About Overtime: Top 12 Q&A’s.” We also wanted to provide a quick visual on some of the resources we provide to help you efficiently navigate the topic of overtime.

As we discussed a couple of months ago in our blog “Coming Soon: IC and OT Regulatory Changes,” we are getting ready for the anticipated final rule on Employee/Independent Contractor Classification. As soon as the final rule is available, we will be working with Littler to determine the changes that will need to be made to Navigator IC and execute the updates as quickly as possible. You may be wondering if there is anything you can do now in preparation for the updates, so we wanted to give you a few things to consider while we wait to see what happens with the final rule.

Spring officially arrived this week, and that means it’s time for spring cleaning! In all the hustle and bustle of sprucing everything up and making updates, don’t forget that your employee handbook may also be in need of some attention. If you don’t currently have an employee handbook, there are many reasons to consider implementing one this season. Here are two PolicySmart^TM features you can use to get your handbook cleanup underway.

PolicySmart News allows you to see a timeline of when new regulations are going into effect, and now is a good time to review what will be happening over the next few months. Don’t forget that you can add effective dates that are relevant to your jurisdiction and company to your calendar directly from PolicySmart. To do so, click on the news item, and then select the “Add to Calendar” option:

Navigator OT is designed to help you understand the risk of classifying an employee as exempt or non-exempt. One of the factors used to determine an employee’s classification is the Duties Test, which examines an employee’s job duties. To make using Navigator OT more efficient for you, we wanted to provide you with some insight regarding the job duty information you will need as you work through the questionnaire.

First, determine the employee’s 3-5 most important job duties:

Los Angeles has adopted “fair workweek” legislation that will go into effect on April 1, 2023. To learn more about this legislation, or other jurisdictions with predictive and fair scheduling regulations, check out our Predictive Scheduling report. This report covers laws aimed at providing more scheduling predictability to hourly workers and can be accessed two ways:
